When I bought the computer, I burned a bunch of recovery CDs. But I don't know what a recovery partition exactly is. I have a C drive and a D drive. A file is sitting on the D drive named RECOVERY. In what way is it used?

The "Recovery" Partition usually contain a compressed file that will reinstall the OS system to your computer to a state as it leaves the factory, meaning, as it was when you bought it and turn it on for the first time. To access it you will have to hold down a key during boot up (usually F8 for windows) and select recovery/reinstallation option in the menu that follows. Read the manual for the specific steps to access the recovery partition.
Leave it alone. It will reinstall your OS when all else fails. Read your manual on how to run the recovery from the recovery partition.
Recovery Partition takes your PC or laptop bact to factory out of the box settings. If you have burnt the DVD’s then you just bot of them and follow the prompts. Tapping F2 will get you to the boot sequence so you optical drive is 1 st choice. To get to the partition there are a number of combinations, tapping F3, F11 or holding 0 (zero) and turning on power. This will reformat so you need to be backed up. It will also put all the trialware back on there if any as you bought it?
