How Do I Use the Recovery Partition From One Hard Drive on a New Replacement Hard Drive?

by Data Recovery Hard Drive on January 24, 2012

I have a strange issue. I have a Compaq laptop, and when I test the hard drive through the BIOS, it is returning a failure error. The recovery partition is on this hard drive, and the drive is still accessible and usable for the most part. How can I replace the hard drive and still use the recovery partition to reload Windows?

you might be able to order a recovery cd from compaq. i would look at there webiste under support and use your model number to see if they offer it. if not, you might have to call them. it should only be about $20. another solution is just obtaining a windows cd from someone you know and then downloading the drivers from the website. just use the key that came with your laptop. its usually on the bottom. if you make a copy of the partition, it will most like fail when you try to use it.

You can’t.

Your best bet is to try to save the recovery partition to CD or DVD. I’m thinking that there is probably directions in the documentation that came with the laptop on how you were supposed to create a recovery CD from the recovery partition in case this very situation occurred. It may be too late now though.

im not sure about this , as far as i know the hard drive is given by the company (containing the factory settings ) .To get it restored the best way is to take it to the service center
